Black Bamboo is a running bamboo. I have some fotos of this mornings operations to keep the bamboo in line. Note DO NOT grow running bamboo within 30m of a dwelling or building.
In this foto, the general area around the bamboo clump is shown. The clump in the middle has roots going out to the far edge of the picture, more than 10m from the centre of the clump.
The "Nigra" [black bamboo] reaches right up to the neighboring Latiflora.
Three shoots are visible in this closeup.
You can see one or two shoots that I have let grow in the area of the main clump. The further are has lots of shoots. More than twenty!
The shoots here are very close together. This shows the vigorous nature of this bamboo!
This area of lawn has a large number of underground roots of the Nigra. You can't easily see the large number of shoots coming up.
The shoot near the middle of the picture does not belong to the pretty little "Falconeri". It belongs to the distant Nigra.
Shoots galore. How many can you count?
A pile of more than eighty shoots have been collected! What a plant. The shoots that I have allowed to grow are nice big fat ones that will grow into magnificent culms. Good on yer Nigra. Bless yer little cotton socks!
