Pruning the Prunus

I have three plum trees on my section.  [prunus!].  Last year I did not prune them.  It was a mild case of colon cancer. This year I have to remove much larger amounts.

This foto shows some of the material removed.  I trim the branches, shred the smaller bits and put the bigger pieces aside to be sawn up into firewood.

Half way through the pruning.  It took me a long time.  There was such a pile of wood in the end.

The apple tree .... -foreground and the two late plums are not yet trimmed.

A day later I have just started on the tree behind.  I will welcome the firewood when it is processed.

It is piling up and I am still not done.

I have had the muncher out and reduced the size of the pile a great deal.  You can see how the apple tree on the left had some trimming as well.

I only got in in time.  The blossoms are already on their way.  Have a look at the buds on the later apricot taken on the same day [today Friday 25 August]

The buds on the apricot are a few days away from bursting.  At last spring is beginning to arrive.
Cheers Chris the pipemaker
